Meet the Team

Sue Gaffney, LMSW, MS Ed

Sue believes that therapy is most effective when clients experience a reliable and secure connection with their clinician within a safe, non-judgmental environment. To achieve this, Sue utilizes evidence-based techniques along with Mindfulness and an awareness of the Body-Mind Connection, creating a supportive and safe relationship in both group and individual settings.

Sue’s holistic therapeutic approach is customized to each client’s unique strengths, challenges, and therapeutic goals, as she recognizes that a one-size-fits-all approach is ineffective. Her work focuses on adults dealing with substance abuse, trauma, anxiety, homelessness, depression, relationship issues, life stressors, and transitions. Sue collaborates with clients to identify problematic thinking and behavior patterns, develop coping skills and strategies, and foster resilience and positive change.

Sue holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Fairfield University, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Bridgeport, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work with a clinical focus from Southern Connecticut State University. Her career has included two distinct phases: many years as a public-school elementary teacher and as a science and nature-based curriculum developer and educator at a non-profit educational organization. After transitioning from education, Sue pursued and earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work.

Outside of her professional life, Sue has a deep passion for nature and the ocean, often found swimming or sailing. She also enjoys spending time with loved ones, family, and friends, and is known for her good sense of humor and love for laughter.
