Meet the Team
Ted Barlow
Ted is a counseling intern completing his Master’s degree at Fairfield University. He provides support for adult and adolescent clients experiencing anxiety, stress, life transitions, ADHD and executive functioning challenges, mood-related difficulties, and substance use. He has a particular appreciation for working with veterans and individuals navigating periods of change or uncertainty in their lives.
Ted’s therapeutic style is grounded in existential-humanistic and person-centered principles, emphasizing collaboration, curiosity, and respect for each client’s lived experience. He strives to create a warm, conversational, and reflective therapeutic environment where clients feel both supported and empowered. His integrative approach incorporates strengths-based perspectives while thoughtfully drawing from evidence-based practices such as CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and DBT-informed skills when aligned with the client’s goals. Ted values pacing therapy intentionally and tailoring the process to each individual, rather than adhering rigidly to a single modality.
Prior to entering the counseling field, Ted served in the U.S. Air Force for 11 years, where he developed a deep appreciation for diverse perspectives, adaptability, and human resilience. Ted earned his B.A. in Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University and brings a broad interdisciplinary background to his clinical training.
Outside of his professional interests, Ted enjoys spending time outdoors, surfing, hiking, traveling, and playing guitar. Having lived abroad, he maintains a longstanding fascination with languages and culture. He believes strongly in the importance of balance, meaning, and intentional living – values that inform both his personal life and his work with clients.
